How to Use the Calendar For Your Program
We have listed the daily holidays or observances that fall on each day of the month. Some days have multiple holidays, so you can choose to focus on just one, plan an activity for each one, or combine them if possible.
For example, June 21st is National Seashell Day and the First Day of Summer. Plan a day for some nautical crafts in your classroom. Students can color their own seashells, create an ocean themed sensory tube, design their own message in a bottle, create seashell sand art, and more! Check out our Nautical Themed activities here.
For another simple example, June 5th is Hot Air Balloon Day and World Environment Day. As a collaborative art activity, have students work on this sticker mosaic for the whole week. Prepare a short lesson plan on the impact these balloons have on the environment, and compare the emmision of fossil fuel for different vehicles and buildings.
You may choose to use the calendar to plan your activities each month and develop themes around each of the days or a combination of days.
The third full week in June includes National Children’s Day, National Making Life Beautiful Day, National Superman Day, Fly A Kite Day, and Global Wind Day. Plan a week of fun crafts and activities to celebrate kids and how they can make life beautiful through art, learning, and laughter!
Have students decorate their own kites with the superhero symbols, or any design that they find beautiful. They can also decorate their own fans. Plan a day to spend outside where they can use the fans and fly their kites. In honor of Global Wind Day, teach students about the power of wind energy.
We’ve shared some great craft ideas below:

If you are just looking for some filler ideas or last minute ideas, refer to the calendar on any particular day and come up with a quick lesson or activity related to the daily holiday or observance. Some of these can even be used for brain breaks.
Activity Ideas Suggestions
On pages 2 & 3, you will find an activity suggestion for each holiday and observance under the Activity Ideas section.
If you see a URL under the Activity Ideas section, that means the observance is listed on our Daily Holidays page. Visit that link (PDF includes clickable links) to find products and items that would work great for an activity.
We’ve also shared some specific ideas as a guide. For example, June 15th is World Juggling Day! Plan a movement activity with students with these nylon scarves. This is a great brain break idea for the classroom.
