How to Use the Calendar For Your Program
We have listed the daily holidays or observances that fall on each day of the month. Some days have multiple holidays, so you can choose to focus on just one, plan an activity for each one, or combine them if possible. Some weeks have similar observances, or ones that are fun to combine.
For example, July 25th is National Dance Day and July 27th Walk on Stilts Day. Plan a day for your campers or rec group to create their own dance routine, and add some fun props like these bucket stilts or even high stilts if they want to challenge themselves! These activities can help kids learn skills in balance and also teamwork as they work together to create a routine. Learn some great tips from PE Teacher Julia Stevens on how to create a dancing unit!
For another simple example, July 30th is Paperback Book Day and also International Day of Friendship. Have kids pair up with their closest friends to create a scrapbook together, or read and discuss their favorite book.
You may choose to use the calendar to plan your activities each month and develop themes around each of the days or a combination of days.
The third week in Juy includes Barn Day and I Love Horses Day. Plan a Farm, Country, or Western theme for your camp or rec program this week! Refer to our blog as your guide to many different creative activity ideas.
Also, the 3rd week in July includes some great summer observances, including National Ice Cream Day, National Tug of War Tournament Day, Craft for a Local Shelter Day, Summer Leisure Day and Hammock Day. Make this into an Outdoor Activity Week where you schedule several crafts and games to celebrate summer weather outdoors. Find activity ideas on the calendar, plus visit our page for a list of our summer favorites!
Activity Ideas Suggestions
On pages 2 & 3, you will find an activity suggestion for each holiday and observance under the Activity Ideas section.
If you see a URL under the Activity Ideas section, that means the observance is listed on our Daily Holidays page. Visit that link (PDF includes clickable links) to find products and items that would work great for an activity.
We’ve also shared some specific ideas as a guide. For example, Video Games Day is on July 8th. Share with kids how they can stay active while still playing games they love by teaching them how to play Fortnite or Frogger in real life!

Our printable calendars also include weekly and monthly observances. For the month of June, there are several weekly and monthly observances. We have shared several links in the calendar download. Be sure to view the printable calendar for the entire list of weekly and monthly holidays.
