About Charles:
I am a Physical Education Teacher at Rolling Terrace Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD. I teach Head Start through 5th grade. There are a total of 900 students at the school, and I teach close to half of those from all grades. Some call me Mr. Silberman, Mr. Superman, or Mr. Silver. I am in my first year there, but have been teaching for 15 years. I am loving it so far! Friendly staff, supportive and progressive administration, and great students and communities.
I have taught health, PE, and grades all the way up to eight. I have taught in so many situations, and I am grateful to have such a breadth of experience and to have crossed paths with so many wonderful people.
Current Lesson Plan/Unit:
We are currently in our Dance Unit. We just started, and I am working on 8 counts and doing the Cha Cha Slide and Cupid Shuffle. I use Just Dance on YouTube, as well as Go Noodle to mix things up as well. Once the students get over potential embarrassment and see their teacher get groovy, they have fun!
Focus for 2018:
Because I am new to the school and community, my goal is to learn names, learn the curriculum, and ingratiate myself into the school and wider community. I also am focusing on expanding my classroom management using Class Dojo for the first time, assessments using Plagnets, and overall planning.
Favorite Lesson Plan/Unit:
I love floor hockey because I played Ice Hockey and am a huge Washington Capitals fan. So, any time I can teach my students a passion of mine, especially since they may not be familiar with it, is so much fun!
What is your favorite part about being a PE teacher?
I help make a difference in students lives at a fundamental age where things stick. I love knowing that everyday, even my worst, I make someone else a little better.
