4 Fun Field Day Activities For PE

Submitted by Lindsay Karp,Physical Education & Health teacher at Bret Harte Elementary in Cherry Hill, NJ.

As a PE teacher, one of the highlights of my year is undoubtedly Field Day, a tradition that brings together students and teachers with a combination of fun and fitness. These 4 Field Day activities were student favorites, and I hope you enjoy them at your school too!

WATER BALLOON CATAPULTS

With 6 catapults, water balloons go in the bucket, students GENTLY place their foot on the end to shoot the balloon up in the air. Students can only have 2 water balloons, then they must move to another activity. Ss can go in groups of 6 that want to go “against” each other to see whose balloon goes the furthest.

ZONE BALL

Zone Ball alternatives:

In groups of 6, students will play 2 teams at a time, trying to get the ball into the goal. Students can only take 2 steps with the ball, making short, quick passes down the court. If they pass the ball and their teammate doesn’t catch it, it’s a turnover and the other team’s ball from where it was dropped. They play for 2 minutes or unless a team scores, if a team scores, they STAY ON, and another team comes on. The team who did not score starts with the ball first on their end line. If no one scores, two new teams come on. Kids love this game!

SOCKER BOPPERS

Field Day boppers

4 students at a time will put on the Bubble Boppers, they will play 2v2, trying to score a goal in their net with the soccer ball. Play for 1 minute, next 4 students go. This activity is a schoolf favorite. NOTE: I do this for grades 2-5 only.

SWIMMER RELAY

Field Day relay

On “GO” one person at a time will put on the tube, goggles, and take the sponge to the pool to be filled with water. They will then race to the other side of the field, empty the water into the bucket, and race back to their team, take everything off and give it to the next person in line. Once they have gone, they are to sit in the back of their line.
