Relay For Life – Cancer Awareness Event

relay for lifeOn September 17th, twenty five S&S associates along with their family and friends joined 15 other teams from the East Haddam/East Hampton/Colchester area for the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life. This is a team event where a member of your team must be on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps. I’m proud to say that a member of team S&S was on the track from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.  We also had three members of our team complete a 1/2 marathon during the walk and received a special certificate at the end.

The Relay is not only a fundraiser, it also honors survivors and is a day to remember those that lost their battle.  At the end of the evening, Luminarias are lit to remember those that we have lost and celebrate the survivors. Team S&S became a major part of this event by taking charge of the Luminaria Tent.  Not only did S&S donate all the supplies to make the Luminaria bags for the special people that they love and have lost, but we also helped everyone make the bags and place them all around the course, and then lit them all on time for the Luminaia Lap.

I’m very proud of my team and of S&S Worldwide. We raised almost $2900.00 with S&S matching $1000 of the monies raised.  The total raised that day was $26,640.  For me personally, it was a great day. There are many reasons I walk, but my Mom is the main reason. She is a 40 year plus survivor of Breast Cancer and she showed myself and my sisters how to stay strong through adversities. I also have three daughters that I hope never have to go though what my Mom did and that a cure is found.
