About Fun At Bat:

Fun At Bat is an entry-level bat-and-ball program for kids that emphasizes character development, functional movement, active play, and fun! The initiative stems from meticulous research on introductory youth sport programs and is supported by Major League Baseball, USA Baseball, and industry professionals.

USA Baseball has worked with SHAPE America to develop two curriculums that include eight lessons, aligning with SHAPE America National Standards and Grade-Level Outcomes for grades K-2 and grades 3-5.

Fun At Bat is a completely FREE program that is school-based and requires no cost to the district or schools to adopt. USA Baseball provides the following to every elementary school that is granted the program:

  • Franklin Sports Equipment Package – Additional baseball and softball equipment can be purchased at S&S Worldwide here – SAVE 20% OFF! >
  • Online access to Fun At Bat lesson curriculums (Also available in the App Store and Google Play store to access via iPad, tablet, or smartphone through ISSUU)
  • Fun At Bat Championship Principles Book (set of 10 books), along with digital access to both English and Spanish versions.

In-School:

Fun At Bat is an ideal addition to any physical education curriculum, as it has been engineered to operate in gymnasiums, open playgrounds, blacktops, or ballfields. The grade-specific curriculum includes active warm-up exercises and other activities that support the age-based physical literacy standards of the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America). Students do not need to own any baseball-specific equipment, as teachers will be provided with equipment from Franklin Sports. Teachers will receive a kit that includes equipment, a detailed and easy-to-follow curriculum, a book set, and access to a FREE online instructor training module. All these components help teachers easily implement the program into their core curriculum for physical education.

“Most of my kids did not even know how to hold a bat. Fun at Bat has helped me introduce a sport I love to my kids. Some have even signed up for the local rec league this summer. Baby steps … yes, but steps moving forward!”

“Des Moines Public Schools was fortunate enough to receive the Fun at Bat kits and curriculum this past school year. The Fun at Bat program has given our students equity and access to foundational skills (Striking with a Long-Implement, personal responsibility, safety, etc.) that maybe not otherwise taught due to our equipment budgets and limitations. The ease of implementation with standard-aligned lessons and more importantly giving student’s access to these skills makes this program a necessity in every district.”

  1. Hi,
A few years back I received free equipment and was wondering if you still offer this? My son attended a non-profit small private school and they could use the equipment for their PE class. Thanks
