September 2022 Daily Holidays & Observances – Printable Calendar
How to Use the Calendar For Your Program
We have listed the daily holidays or observances that fall on each day of the month. Some days have multiple holidays, so you can choose to focus on just one or plan an activity for each one.
For example, September 12th is National Video Games Day. Plan a few activities that relate to kids’ favorite video games, like Fortnite, Frogger, and Pacman. National Day of Encouragement falls on the same day, so make sure you share that with students and motivate them to encourage one another and show good sportsmanship.
Themes
You may choose to use the calendar to plan your activities each month and develop themes around each of the days or a combination of days.
The 1st week in September (into the following week) includes several observances that allow your group to play and get active. Plan a Game Week, where you set up activities and games that go along with each holiday.
- American Chesss Day (9/1) -teach your group how to play the classic game of chess
- Spalding Baseball Day (9/2) – plan baseball themed activities for your program
- U.S. Bowling League Day (9/3) – try out our new favorite interactive bowling game
- National Tailgating Day (9/3) – find fun tailgating and toss games on our blog.
- National Wildlife Day (9/4) – kids can play and learn with this National Parks matching game
- Labor Day (9/5)- set up this jumbo patriotic game of Tumbling Timbers
- Great Egg Toss Day (9/6) – toss eggs in the air and try to catch them using this Egg and Spoon Toss pack.
- NFL Season Starts (9/8) – get kids active with a game of Flag Football

Hi Delanie, so great to hear you love the printable holidays calendar! We are working on getting this posted by the end of the week, we just posted the fitness challenge calendar today! https://www.ssww.com/blog/october-printable-fitness-challenge-calendar/
These calendars are a must at my program. They help the staff develop creative groups. It is most useful when you can get the whole quarter of calendars at the same time. I did that for the summer and was able to purchase everything needed to address all the planned groups, all at once. It was very helpful for the instructers to have everything right there for them. Thank you for these calendars and please keep it up!
I love the printable monthly calendars with holidays/special days.
Lovely,
Helena
This is a wonderful idea for our after school programs. How far in advance can we get the calendars. They will be wonderful for planning our activities for the year
Hi. Yes, I saw t he 2018 version. I would like to see the 2019 to be sure I have things correct. So it would be awesome if you could send each month when they are done. Or is there any way that Ed World can use their newsletters/blogs to let just know what months are open for use and give the link especially for those of us planning well in advance.
I love the things I see on t he site and use it often as well as share with other educators. Marvelous resource! thanks for all you do there…to help us help kids!
I love the printable monthly calendars with holidays/special days. May I ask how one can get to the October one as I am looking ahead in planning – especially if I choose to place an order to support any activities.
Thank you
Hi Sandy! We will be updating the October calendar with the 2019 dates very soon! I can email you when it is published. Currently the 2018 is still up.
