How to Help Your Residents Fulfill Their Summer Bucket List

senior living summer activities

Summer begins on Thursday, June 20th, so make sure that your activity supply closet is stocked with fun summer items to help your residents fulfill their summer bucket list, like attending picnics or going to the beach.

Go to a Picnic

Coordinate with Dining Services to have an indoor picnic in your Dining Room. Ahead of time, cover the Dining Room tables with a picnic table tablecloth. Serve a variety of tasty picnic foods for lunch, including sandwiches, salads like egg salad or potato salad, deviled eggs, pies, and lemonade.

Go to the Park

Turn your backyard into a fun park as you invite residents outdoors to play fun law and toss games, like this popup golf target tos game.

Fly a Kite

Invite residents to use markers to decorate their own kites before taking them outdoors to fly. Be sure to recruit a few volunteers and staff members to help residents get their kites up in the air.

Make Ice Cream

Use an ice cream maker ball so that residents can get their exercise while making one of their favorite desserts. Once the ingredients have been added to the ball, close it and have residents toss the ball back and forth as the ice cream mixes and sets.

Have a Water Balloon Fight

Play a fun game of water balloon dodge ball in the backyard, in which your staff members and volunteers are the targets. For the activity, seat residents in a line along the perimeter of your back patio. Then have the staff and volunteers stand in the grass to try to dodge the water balloons that are being thrown by your residents.

Go to the Beach

Fill a kiddie pool with sand, and set chairs along the perimeter for residents to sit in as they place their bare feet in the sand. Throw in a few beach balls for residents to hit back and forth.
