There are many different directions to make slime-type products. Here are some simple steps to use with Borax and White Glue (we suggest using Elmer’s® GL622, sold separately).
•Have your child squeeze about 4 ounces of glue into a glass bowl.
•Mix in 4 ounces of warm water.
•Your child can add food coloring, if desired.
•Mix 1 teaspoon of Borax into 1/2 cup of water and slowly add the solution to the glue mixture.
•Stir in the Borax solution until the slime starts to come together.
•Have your child knead the slime. At first it will be really wet and gooey, then stringy and sloppy, until it finally holds together.
Ask your child, “What does the slime feel like?” “How is it changing as you continue to work with it?”
Let your child continue kneading until he or she has one easy-to-manipulate mass of slime. Ask them if they’d like to try making shapes or objects with it—maybe a semi-circle or sphere, for example. Your child might also enjoy cutting the slime with scissors (cookie cutters won’t work). Or, they can just push, pull, and squeeze it as they wish.
When your child is finished with the slime, store it in a sealable container or Ziploc bag for about two weeks. It may start to develop an odor by then.
