I feel that 21st century learning is active and engages students at all levels of education. I hope to help my students to discover their life’s purpose, their gifts, and the shape of their intelligence. I want to guide them to strive for success in this fast-paced and rapidly changing world in which they live. When they internalize their purpose it ignites choice, passion, motivation, direction, and will; the perfect conditions for success. In this state they can focus their eyes on the future, expectant of new challenges, and simply view problems as resolutions in disguise. This is my #SchoolYearResolution

Kathy Fields
My #SchoolYearResolution is to remember that kids come from all kinds of homes and for many of them, school is the safe place to be. When I am working with my students identified most at risk, I will remind myself they don’t all think, believe, experience the same way I did/do and I must meet them where they are coming from in helping them find success.

Rachel Seibert
My #SchoolYearResolution is to find, borrow, buy, loan and get novels for my students at their individual reading level. I teach at one of the only public all-girls schools in our state and my classes consist of a huge range of reading levels. Last year I had one class with students reading as low as on a second grade level to as high as a tenth grade level, all in one sixth grade classroom! With such a wide reading range I have found literature circles to be the most effective teaching strategy to meet each girl at her level, while still challenging her to excell. However, with over 100 students and all different lexile levels of reading it was literally impossible for me to find the books in the genre that I needed. For example, last year I wanted to do a literature circle unit focused on nonfiction novels of the Civil Rights Movement but I could not find books at the low reading levels that I needed! I ended up going to the public library at least one to two times a week trying to pick up novels, return and renew novels that I needed. If I could just own copies of the books that I needed I would be able to better focus my time on my girls, grading their work and designing lessons to extend their learning in each of their books. I know it sounds strange in the year 2015 with all of the technology that we have to be asking for novels but it is my #SchoolYearResolution! Some of my students come from extremely rough home lives, some of my students are refugees, some of my students are learning English as a Second Language and some of my students have support at home. As a teacher to all of them I feel that every young girl deserves a book that will challenge her, inspire her, get her excited about reading and at the same time not overwhelm her! It is possible! The books are written I just need them in my classroom! Thank you for your consideration!Kimberly Thomas
#SCHOOLYEARRESOLUTION…to incorporate Project-Based Learning in my classroom and allow the students to fully explore, experiment, learn, and achieve in the world of which they are such a critical part.
