As she walks around the farm, she doesn\u2019t seem to notice the fox following her. Read to find out what happens to the fox and if Rosie can get back home safe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended Age: 1st Grade<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Activity 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gather the class on the rug to introduce Rosie\u2019s Walk. As a whole class, do a picture walk of the story. The teacher can model how to do a picture walk or students can volunteer to say what they notice about the pictures.<\/li>\n<li>During the picture walk, introduce new vocabulary such as flour and mill. Write the new words on chart paper.<\/li>\n<li>After the picture walk, read the story to the class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rosie\u2019s Walk<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/chart-tablet-xin-ruled-PE1891\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ruled Chart Tablet 24\u201dx32\u201d<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/liqui-mark-washables-markers-SC1126\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liqui-Mark Washable Markers<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Activity 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The next day, re-read Rosie\u2019s Walk to the whole class.<\/li>\n<li>After reading, talk about the setting for the story. Where and when does the story take place?<\/li>\n<li>Next talk about characters. Who are the characters in the story?<\/li>\n<li>Then tell the students that they will create their own fox and hen puppets. Show an example of a completed puppet for each animal. Students will create their own puppets to help re-tell the story.<\/li>\n<li>At a center, students can use their puppets to re-tell the story using a story map.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/color-me-hand-puppets-FA3448\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Color-Me Hand Puppets<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/crayola-regular-size-crayons-SC2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crayola Regular Size Crayons<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Story Map<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Activity 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At another center, have sentences from the book written out on sentence strips.<\/li>\n<li>Mix up the sentence strips and have the students put them back in the right order for the sequence of events in the story.<\/li>\n<li>A copy of the book can be at the center for students to check their work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/sentence-strips-white-PE399\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sentence Strips White<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/liqui-mark-washables-markers-SC1126\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liqui-Mark Washable Markers<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rosie\u2019s Walk<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8470\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/rosies-walk-classroom-book1.jpg\" alt=\"rosie's walk classroom book\" width=\"540\" height=\"352\" \/>Activity 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gather the class together to introduce a writing activity. The students will choose two new animals and make their own stories.<\/li>\n<li>Brainstorm ideas together. What animals could they write about and what will they be doing?
