This week&#8217;s spotlight is on Scott Dyer.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7696 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Scott-Dyer-e1487770037249-210x3001.png\" alt=\"Scott Dyer\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" \/>About Scott Dyer<\/h2>\n<p>I teach at PS 251 located in Brooklyn, New York. My school is public school that serves students from Pre Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. We are a part of the New York City Public Schools. I am the Physical Education\u00a0Teacher, Chairperson\u00a0of the School Wellness Committee, Professional Learning Community\u00a0PE Facilitator\u00a0for the Office of Wellness, and a Move-to-Improve Champion. Currently, I teach Pre Kindergarten through the Fifth Grade, and approximately 550 students a week. I have been teaching for over 14 years.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: left;\">Current Lesson Plan\/Unit<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><u>Pre K &amp; K:<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0I have been working on the fundamentals\u00a0of the basic loco-motor skills and pathways as well as how to track a ball to properly catch it.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>Grade 1-3:<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0 They are learning the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship through the relay races while tossing a\u00a0beach ball through a target.<\/li>\n<li><u style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Grades 4 &amp; 5:<\/u>\u00a0 I am preparing them right now for the next parts of the FitnessGram (e.g. push-up,\u00a0trunk lift, and curl-up)\u00a0through various fitness circuits. In addition, I have ended each class\u00a0with a game of Monster Ball.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7677\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/scott-dyer-pe-1-1024x7681.jpg\" alt=\"scott dyer pe\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: left;\">Focus for 2017<\/h2>\n<p>Every year I set out a goal to make students more aware of the importance of fitness in and out\u00a0of school. The main focus this year is for my students to find\u00a0love of running.\u00a0I am a runner\u00a0myself and all my classes are a part of the Mighty Milers Program ran by the New York Road\u00a0Runners. My students are off running when they enter my gym and up to running up a half mile\u00a0without stopping. My goal is for them to reach a mile without stopping.\u00a0I make sure they have a good time, and the New York Road\u00a0Runners give incentives for each milestone my students make.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7676\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/scott-dyer-pe-teacher1.jpg\" alt=\"scott dyer pe teacher\" width=\"500\" height=\"595\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: left;\">Favorite Lesson Plan<\/h2>\n<p>My favorite lesson plan has to be a game I created called Bullseye.\u00a0It can be played with all grades from Kindergarten (with modifications) through Fifth Graders. I have seen students\u00a0who are shy and do not always want participate\u00a0fully love this game.\u00a0This game has brought\u00a0students together who could not work together now work together as a team. They are always\u00a0asking to play it. It got so popular, I have now made it a part of Field Day as one of the events! View the Bullseye activity in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/YY93BS9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indoor Field Day Guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/scott-dyer-pe-class1.jpg\" alt=\"scott dyer pe class\" width=\"540\" height=\"403\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: left;\">PE Teacher Inspiration<\/h2>\n<p>My favorite part of being a PE teacher is knowing I have left an impact on my students lives. As a child, I would watch my father (a former PE teacher) teach and coach many teams. When he retired, I saw former students coming back to see him during his last week and thanking him for all that he did. Over the 14 years at PS 251, I have been a father figure to many students, an ear when they needed to talk, first coach who believed in them to unlock their potential,\u00a0and motivator\u00a0to get them on the right path.<\/p>\n<p>After Hurricane Sandy, one student kept on making sure that I was okay every day after I came back to work.
