Teach students what it means to be thankful, and have them share what they value the most this year. This is a great collaborative art project, and can be hung up on your bulletin board for the season! You can also use this activity for afterschool, and even with senior residents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/color-me-imagination-puzzle-PE1246\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Color-Me Puzzle<\/a> (or\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/blank-puzzlers-piece-CO43\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Blank Puzzle Pieces)<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/pacon-peacock-poster-board-4-ply-PE1698\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Poster Board<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/fadeless-design-rolls-PE161\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paper Roll<\/a> (tropical foliage or clouds)\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/arts-and-crafts-supplies\/coloring-and-drawing-supplies\/markers\/permanent-markers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Permanent Markers<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=adhesive+letters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Self Adhesive Letters<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Step 1: Make your tree and background<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Draw the outline of a tree on a piece of brown\u00a0poster board. You want it large enough so you can fit the puzzle pieces.\u00a0You can use a template if that helps.<\/li>\n<li>Cut the tree out<\/li>\n<li>Glue the tree to a background. You can cut and glue\/tape green and blue poster board together for the sky and grass. Or you can use a pre-printed paper roll, like our foliage or cloud theme. Then pin it up on your bulletin board.<\/li>\n<li>Add the words &#8220;Thankul For&#8230;&#8221; at the top with the self adhesive letters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Step 2: Color the puzzle pieces like leaves<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Give each student 1-3 puzzle pieces, depending on the size of your classroom.<\/li>\n<li>The puzzle pieces are the leaves. Have students color the puzzle pieces with fall colors, like yellow, red, and orange. <em>Hint: For darker colors and a more multi-colored tree look, have some of the students color\u00a0their\u00a0puzzle pieces twice with the marker.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6139\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/thanksgiving-puzzle-tree-pieces1.jpg\" alt=\"Thanksgiving craft\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3: Thankful words<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have each students\u00a0write what they are thankful for on their puzzle pieces. They may write things like friends, my bike, or candy.<\/li>\n<li>Choose one student to start. Have him or her glue their pieces onto the tree, and share with the class why they chose each word.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6141\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/thanksgiving-craft1.jpg\" alt=\"Thanksgiving craft classroom\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4: Add other fun seasonal items to your tree<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We added a cute owl to the center of the tree. You can extend the activity by having students draw or cut out some animals and put around or in the tree, like birds, squirrels, deer, and more. Have everyone say why they are thankful for animals!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As an alternative to puzzle pieces and for a more natural look, you could also use\u00a0these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/wood-leaves-craft-kit-GP2194\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wooden leaves<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;d love to see how your Thanksgiving puzzle tree comes out!
