Ring Around the World is a fun game that I use in the beginning of the year to introduce all types of equipment to my kindergarten and first grade classes. This activity allows students to experience a high energy game while getting a feel for all different types of equipment that we will use throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/sports-and-pe\/hoops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Hoops<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=half+cones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cones<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/vinyl-chickens-W10104G\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Vinyl Chickens<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=Poly+spots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Poly spots<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=Bean+bags\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bean bags<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/sports-and-pe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Any other PE equipment!<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet tw-align-center\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Ss playing Ring Around the World working on collecting different pieces of equipment that we use in PE!! Ss then separated each pile and counted how many of each item they had. The fish were their favorite! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/physed?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#physed<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/hartehasHEART?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#hartehasHEART<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bret_es?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@bret_es<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KR6tWKfrcR\">pic.twitter.com\/KR6tWKfrcR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Lindsay K (@PeMrskarp) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeMrskarp\/status\/1174274525481058304?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 18, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Set-Up:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spread all your equipment out around the gym, students on the outside of the\u00a0 black lines will have a hoop.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Activity Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>**I have large classes, so this can always be modified for smaller classes*<\/p>\n<p>As a lead up to this game students practice rolling their hoops around the gym so they understand how to get the hoop to roll.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In groups of 2, students will sit at a hoop around the outside lines of the gym<\/li>\n<li>1 student will go at a time and roll their hoop to the middle of the gym to try and land around some equipment<\/li>\n<li>Any equipment that lands inside the hoop the students get to take back to their partner<\/li>\n<li>Students are working together to collect as many pieces of equipment as they can<\/li>\n<li>You can make each piece of equipment a different amount of points and let the students tally them up at the end<\/li>\n<li>There are a variety of extensions for this game, and my students love to see what their hoop lands around!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Find a similar activity with a Pokemon theme from PE teacher Brian Kampper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/pe-activity-catch-the-mythological-creatures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17337 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/ssww-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/linsday-karp-pe-teacher.png\" alt=\"lindsay karp pe teacher\" width=\"125\" height=\"221\" \/>About the Author:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Karp is currently an elementary physical education teacher in Cherry Hill, NJ.
