This simple and straightforward project requires little artistic skill and will deliver great results for any age group. This project was designed with a distressed finished look that hides imperfections and makes this large textile project fast and fun for everyone. So, let\u2019s get crafty, here\u2019s what you\u2019ll need to get started:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/velvet-art-mandalas-PS1400\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Velvet Art Mandala Posters<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/color-splash-fabric-paint-assortment-4-oz-PT3315\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Color Splash Fabric Paint<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/crayola-big-paint-brush-set-flat-AB3754\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Soft Flat Paint Brush<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/white-scarves-FA3453\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cotton Scarf<\/a> or other smooth fabric Item to decorate<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/newsprint-paper-18-x24-30-lb-PE107B\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Newsprint Paper<\/a> or scrap paper<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/craft-cup-disposable-containers-AC449\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paint Cups<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/kraft-paper-roll-natural-36-x-1000-PE120\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thick Kraft Paper<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/masking-tape-beige-94in-x-60yd-AS665\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Masking Tape<\/a> to cover\/protect your work surface<\/li>\n<li>Cup of Water &amp; Paper Towels<\/li>\n<li>Scrap piece of cardboard- Approx. 12&#8243; x 12&#8243;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Instructions:<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Start by squeezing a generous amount of the black fabric paint into a paint cup and then add a small amount of water and mix with the brush until you reach a fluid consistency that can be easily brushed onto the absorbent velvet art poster. Be sure to cover your work surface with thick paper as some paint may bleed through the fabric onto the table. I find it least frustrating to tape down the edges of the protective paper to the table to prevent it from slipping during the Paint-N-Press process. Lay your fabric scarf down flat on your covered surface, If space is a concern you can create the pattern on the scarf in smaller sections.<\/p>\n<p>Now you are ready to paint! Place the velvet poster down flat on a piece of scrap cardboard (larger than the 9&#8243; poster) and brush on a layer of the paint mixture covering the mandala design as evenly as possible. \u00a0You need to do this step relatively fast before the paint begins to dry, so don\u2019t fuss too long if the paint isn\u2019t brushed on perfectly. \u00a0Again, this project was designed with a distressed finished look that hides imperfections and makes this large textile project fast and fun for everyone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Process.png\" alt=\"Paint-N-Press Process\" width=\"550\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Process.png 550w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Process-220x73.png 220w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Process-300x100.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Process-500x166.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now that you have applied the paint, it\u2019s time to press! Simply, Flip the painted velvet art poster over and press the paint side down directly onto the fabric scarf and smooth down flat with your hand to transfer the design. Peel the poster away from the fabric and also peel up that area of the fabric off the paper covered work surface to release the wet paint and immediately lay the scarf back down in place. This is important to do this after every Paint-N-Press step so your project doesn\u2019t dry in place and stick to the paper. Now reposition the poster to another area of the scarf and press again. I have found that I can get 2-3 \u201cprints\u201d in between coats of paint.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24077 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Pattern-e1568815391444.jpg\" alt=\"Paint-N-Press Pattern\" width=\"547\" height=\"436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Pattern-e1568815391444.jpg 547w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Pattern-e1568815391444-220x175.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Pattern-e1568815391444-300x239.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Pattern-e1568815391444-376x300.jpg 376w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 547px) 100vw, 547px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Repeat this Paint-N-Press process until you have covered the scarf to your liking with the base mandala pattern. After I stamped as many full mandala circles onto my scarf, I decided to use scissors and cut my velvet poster down to a 5\u201d diameter circle so I had a smaller, patterned mandala stamp to fill in the remainder of the open spaces. I started to run low on black fabric paint, so I mixed in some dark blue with my black paint and water mixture to complete my all-over base pattern. Remembering to peel and release the painted fabric away from the paper surface after each press while it&#8217;s wet to avoid a sticky, sad craft disaster. Once you have covered your scarf with the base pattern, hang dry.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24078\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Base-Pattern.jpg\" alt=\"Paint-N-Press Base Pattern\" width=\"742\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Base-Pattern.jpg 742w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Base-Pattern-220x129.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Base-Pattern-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Paint-N-Press-Base-Pattern-500x292.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 742px) 100vw, 742px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lay your patterned scarf out flat on your protected work surface and prepare your paint\/water mixture one color at a time, light colors first.
