You can adapt this project for a variety of groups and skill sets or even make it solo project for a cozy night at home! Paper quilling is very popular these days and there are a ton of fancy tools available to help master this technique, but I wanted to show a no-tool version that you can do on a budget.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Christian-Cross-Craft-Activity1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Download a printable version of this activity here<\/a>\u00a0so you can easily follow the steps and the design!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/unfinished-wooden-cross-tile-trivet-WD7495\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Unfinished Wood Cross Trivets<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/crayola-washable-watercolors-PT3326\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crayola Washable Watercolors<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/elmers-washable-school-glue-GL626\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elmer&#8217;s\u00ae Washable School Glue<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/tru-ray-sulphite-construction-paper-PE4000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sulphite Construction Paper<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2239 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Supplies-e14496115414361.jpg\" alt=\"cross craft activity\" width=\"596\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Cut your construction paper into thin strips,. They should be \u00bd\u201d x 9\u201d. You will need about 70-80 strips of paper. I used an X-Acto knife and a ruler for this. You could also use a paper cutter. Be sure to use caution.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2240\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Exacto-e14496117536211.jpg\" alt=\"christian craft\" width=\"700\" height=\"379\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Paint your cross trivet with a wash of watercolor. You will need a brush and a cup of water. You can also use Acrylic paint or wood stain. Allow a few minutes to dry.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2241\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Watercolors-e14496118041721.jpg\" alt=\"cross craft idea\" width=\"700\" height=\"417\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Now let\u2019s get things rolling! First curl the strip using your thumb nail as you hold the paper between your thumb and index finger as if you were curling ribbon.\u00a0You can also use scissors to curl the paper. This makes the paper rolling much easier. Start at one end, and hold the strip between your thumb and pointer finger. Then use the other hand to roll the strip forward into a tight coil.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2243\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Curling-tip11.jpg\" alt=\"Curling tip\" width=\"700\" height=\"420\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong> Starting at the top of the cross, squeeze some glue into the desired area and put the paper coil into place. Be sure to press and hold the paper for about 30-60 seconds to be sure it stays secure.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2244\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Glue-e14496126071391.jpg\" alt=\"christian crafts\" width=\"700\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alternate colors as you roll and glue the paper into place and fill the base of the cross. And if you say a prayer as you roll each strip\u2026well that\u2019s a whole lot of Jesus love!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2245\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Half-done-e14841671337771.jpg\" alt=\"religious craft activity\" width=\"650\" height=\"479\" \/>Here I have the whole top finished. It&#8217;s starting to look very beautiful!<\/p>\n<p>And this is the finished cross craft! This was one of my favorite Christian craft activities. You can admire your finished product and use it as a decoration for your home. Instead of paper, use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/arts-and-crafts-supplies\/beads-and-jewelry-making\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">colorful beads<\/a> to fill the cross trivets. Aleene&#8217;s tacky glue does a great job of holding the beads in place and it dries clear. Special thanks to Diane and her Summer Bible Camp for this idea! They used it as one of 5 crafts for their &#8220;Journey with Jesus&#8221; week.
