Hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills has always been an important component in my elementary physical education program. Through my 15 years of teaching P.E., I noticed that a lot of many students lack hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.<\/p>\n

One thing I have always done each year to help students develop these skills is Sport Stacking – view the blog here<\/a><\/strong>. However, I\u2019m always looking for new activities!<\/p>\n

Three years ago I decided to incorporate the game of Jacks (the mini ones). It did not take long for the students to catch on to the game. As a matter of fact, a lot of our faculty and staff at MSA-West would come participate in our P.E. class just so they could play jacks. Most of our guest had played Jacks as a child, and loved sharing their knowledge with our students. After the first few days of playing jacks, I had at least 6 parents contact me asking where they could purchase a set of jacks for their child. It was so rewarding to know students were taking what we did in class and now playing it at home too. Most of the time I use jacks when we do stations or when we have limited space. I have also included a few sets of jacks in our recess kits.<\/p>\n
