We are doing holiday stations in P.E. this week to get into the Christmas spirit. We also use it as a review of all the skills we have done for the second nine weeks. It does require some equipment, but all you have to use is a little creativity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> To reinforce previously learned concepts in a fun holiday station set up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Suggested Grade Level<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>:<\/strong> K-5 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Teaching Suggestions<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Make sure you watch for safety during the activity especially with the scooters.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 125%; text-align: center;\">Holiday PE Station Descriptions<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is an activity that is wonderful to use the week or days before the holiday break. My students really enjoy the holiday music on while they are at the stations. I have 10 stations listed but if you want to use less you can. I usually partner teach the week before the holidays.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Candy Cane Bowling<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/weighted-bowling-pins-W2577\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bowling pins<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/tough-foam-bowling-ball-W9874\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bowling balls<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/prismatic-candy-cane-cutouts-NL187\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Candy cane cutouts<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set up a few bowling lanes. Tape pictures of candy canes on the bowling pins (only 3-5 pins for each one). Students take turns with a partner bowling and trying to knock down the pins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16177\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/candy-cane-bowling1.jpg\" alt=\"candy cane bowling station\" width=\"600\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Stocking Stuffers<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/sports-pe-recreation\/coach-instructor-resources\/flags-cones-spot-markers\/cones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Cones<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=stocking\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Christmas stockings<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/heavyweight-beanbags-W9750\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bean bags<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set up 2 cones about 5-7 feet apart. One student stands at a cone and holds a Christmas stocking. The other student is at the other cone and has a bean bag. Students use the underhand throw to toss the bean bag and the partners try to catch the bean bag in the stocking. After 5 attempts the partner switches places.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/stocking-stuffer-station1.jpg\" alt=\"stocking stuffer station\" width=\"600\" height=\"374\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Gingerbread Houses<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/sports-pe-recreation\/hoops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Hula hoops<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two students will have 6 hula hoops to build a gingerbread house (<a href=\"\/blog\/team-building-pe-activity-with-hula-hoops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hula Hoop Hut<\/a>). I always display a picture of a hula hoop hut as a reference. If time permits, have the students try to crawl through the gingerbread house without knocking it down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16179\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/gingerbread-house-station1.jpg\" alt=\"gingerbread house station\" width=\"600\" height=\"615\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Rooftop Balance<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-poly-spot-marker-W4828\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Poly spots<\/a> (or other obstacle items)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/speed-stackscup-sets-W11699\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Stacking cups<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students move through the obstacle course pretending it is the rooftop of a house. Once they make it to the other side, students complete a sport stacking pattern. The teacher will explain that they are completing the balance training.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16187\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/balance-station-PE1.jpg\" alt=\"holiday stations PE\" width=\"600\" height=\"415\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Dancer<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=jump+ropes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jump ropes<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dancer the reindeer says, \u201cGrab a jump rope and jump over it forward and backwards.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/reindeer-jump-rope1.jpg\" alt=\"reindeer jump rope station\" width=\"550\" height=\"658\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Chimney Toss<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrumcompetition-flying-disc-W9706\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Frisbees<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Carpet squares (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/felt-squares-FA3444\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">felt squares<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-square-spots-W4830\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">poly spot squares<\/a> work too)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/stand-up-paper-fireplace-SL6614\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chimney<\/a>\u00a0(or Santa) cutouts<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students stand around the \u201cChimney\u201d and throw the frisbee on to the square. After throwing the frisbee, students may retrieve them and keep throwing until it is time to rotate to the next station. Tell the \u201cReindeer\u201d they need to help Santa toss the toys down the Chimney!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16182\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chimney-station1.jpg\" alt=\"holiday stations for PE\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Dodging Snowmen<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/weighted-bowling-pins-W2577\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bowling pins<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-rubber-basketball-set-W11634\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Basketballs<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Snowmen cutouts (or other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=christmas+cutouts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christmas cutouts<\/a>)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set up 12 bowling pins (with pictures of snowmen taped to them) in a line with a few feet apart. Students will dribble a basketball around the \u201csnowmen\u201d while guarding the ball. This activity helps student work on protecting the ball while dribbling around obstacles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16183\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/snowmen-station-PE1.jpg\" alt=\"holiday PE stations\" width=\"600\" height=\"603\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Jingle Bell Keep Up<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/merry-christmas-latex-balloons-11-NL679\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Balloons<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=silver+bells\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jingle bells<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Place a small jingle bell inside a balloon, then blow up the balloon. Each student will strike the ballon with their hand. The goal of the activity is to play \u201ckeep up,\u201d and try not to let the balloon hit the ground. The bell inside the balloon makes it a little bit more challenging.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16184\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/jingle-bell-holiday-station1.jpg\" alt=\"jingle bell holiday station\" width=\"600\" height=\"546\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">How the Grinch Stole Christmas<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-vinyl-square-beanbags-W9765G\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Bean bags<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-scooters-W4496\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Scooters<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Spread out a bunch of bean bags to represent the presents in Whoville. The Grinch (each student) will lie down on a scooter and try to steal the presents one at a time. Once all the bean bags are gone, see which Grinch had the most presents. And most importantly, have each Grinch return the presents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16185\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/grinch-Christmas-station1.jpg\" alt=\"grinch Christmas station PE\" width=\"600\" height=\"409\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Snowball Toss<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/white-puff-snow-balls-W13856\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>White yarn balls<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Targets (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/big-bowling-W5267\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bowling pins<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/sports-pe-recreation\/hoops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hula hoops<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/sports-pe-recreation\/coach-instructor-resources\/flags-cones-spot-markers\/cones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cones<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-spiral-foam-football-set-W11516\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mini footballs<\/a>, pictures)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students use white yarn balls (or balled up pieces of paper) as snowballs to throw at a variety of targets that are on the floor or on the wall.
