Educational consultant Christine Reeve shares that &#8220;&#8230;some students need more visual structure. This [kid] would sit in his chair at the table, but over time he would move his chair farther and farther away from the activity. \u00a0To help him stay in one place without continual reminders, the teacher put duct tape on the floor surrounding his chair. Over time we faded the tape by picking up pieces of it at a time. I&#8217;ve done the same thing with a student who kept moving away during calendar time. We put the tape on the floor and the difference in his behavior was unbelievable. Suddenly he wouldn&#8217;t let his chair stray out of the box! Timeline? A series of events or a chart? Why not make it life sized on your floor to create engagement and excitement for students! Fifth Grade Teacher Joanne Miller from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BPOXiODhm8v\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@headoverheelsforteaching<\/a> created this number line for locating decimals and fractions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15967\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tape-math2.jpg\" alt=\"number line fractions and decimals in classroom\" width=\"700\" height=\"699\" \/><\/p>\n<p>AND&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/mrelementarymath.com\/using-interactive-number-lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mr. Elementary Math<\/a>\u00a0helped his students understand the relationship between numbers with this interactive number line. You can see<a href=\"https:\/\/mrelementarymath.com\/using-interactive-number-lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> his instructions here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15968\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/numberline2.jpg\" alt=\"numberline\" width=\"334\" height=\"542\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Assigning Seats &#8211;<\/strong> Whether it is circle time, a special spot for musical instruments, or an assigned area where the color on something can match the color of the tape &#8211; using colored tape to support where things or students should be is a great way to manage your classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Over at<a href=\"https:\/\/kindercraze.com\/library-linky-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Kinder Craze<\/a>, she uses these floor tape marks as a way for assigned seating during her circle time in her classroom library. Kindergarten teacher\u00a0Maria Gavin shares, &#8220;Did you notice the duct tape on my carpet? I use it to assign seats during circle time. I have five colors in rainbow order (pink, orange, yellow, green, and teal). It coordinates perfectly with my brightly colored baskets and helps so much with classroom management during circle time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15987\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/assigned-seating-classroom-tape2.png\" alt=\"assigned seating classroom tape\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another idea for coordinated floor seating is using a long line of tape so that students are directed where to sit. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplekidmin.com\/2014\/08\/creative-seating-for-childrens-ministry.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Simple Kidman<\/a>\u00a0shows their idea below for their Children&#8217;s Ministry seating so that it is not chaotic and the floor tape lasts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15985\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/floor-tape-for-the-classroom2.png\" alt=\"floor tape for the classroom\" width=\"640\" height=\"463\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>X Marks the Spot &amp; Lining Up &#8211; <\/strong>Do you constantly have issues with students interrupting small group time or disrupting the class to ask questions immediately? Well so did this 2nd Grade Teacher from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.soaringsandy.com\/2012\/09\/why-didnt-i-think-of-that.html?m=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Soaring Sandy<\/a>. Below are a few ideas. One is her X Marks the spot, where she has rules for her X. They consist of<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">\u00a0one kid at a time on the X,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">no talking or flaling arms while on the X, and that you must have an acceptable reason to be on the X (referencing your animals or something you did yesterday is not one of them).\u00a0<\/span>In addition, she has now mastered &#8220;lining up&#8221; in her classroom.
