The simple plus sign shape can be used to create flat 2D mosaics, or 3D designs and structures that curve and bend. We&#8217;ve made so many fun shapes with these mini pieces. Below you can find a tutorial for making a sea turtle. This is also a fun idea for celebrating World Turtle Day on May 23rd!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 125%; text-align: center;\">Makerspace Sea Turtle Tutorial<\/h2>\n<p>The Plus Plus Mini piece tub comes with 3,600 pieces, and a mix of basic, neon, and pastel colors. There are a total of 21 colors, and they come in a closable storage tub to make it easy for on the go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/plus-plus-mini-piece-mix-tub-LR4070\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Plus-Plus\u00ae Mini 3,600-Piece Mix Tub<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>First, you&#8217;ll want to gather the total number of pieces you will need for this activity. Then follow the video below, and use the steps as another visual guide.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Green: 26<\/li>\n<li>Brown: 19<\/li>\n<li>Black: 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Video Tutorial:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HeWfqPZF__A?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Use 21 green to make the shape below. This is the body and the foundation of your 3D turtle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14288\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plus-plus-sea-turtle-1-e15337334035831.png\" alt=\"makerspace \" width=\"500\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Add 3 brown for the start of the shell.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14289\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plus-plus-sea-turtle-21.png\" alt=\"makerspace sea turtle\" width=\"500\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3:<\/strong> Add 4 more brown.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14290\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plus-plus-sea-turtle-31.png\" alt=\"sea turtle makerspace\" width=\"500\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4:<\/strong> Add 12 brown for the top of the shell.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14291\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plus-plus-sea-turtle-41.png\" alt=\"makerspace sea turtle\" width=\"500\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5<\/strong>: Now you will create the head of the sea turtle. First, add 1 black and 3 green (this is where we substituted the 1 black for the brown &#8211; it&#8217;s for the eyes). Then add 1 more green, and again add 1 more green to the top.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14292\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plus-plus-sea-turtle-5-71.png\" alt=\"maker space\" width=\"1000\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 6:<\/strong> Attach the head to the body. Note: The head is not going to be level to the body and won&#8217;t sit flat on the table. It is slightly raised up.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14293\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/plus-plus-sea-turtle-81.png\" alt=\"plus plus sea turtle makerspace\" width=\"500\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We hope you enjoyed the turtle tutorial. I think we just coined a new term &#8211; turtorial!<\/p>\n<p>If you want to get even more creative, you can make a wave for your turtle! Just use blue and white Plus Plus pieces.
