While playing with paint, they have to be careful and clever to outsmart the cat!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recommended Ages<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preschool &#8211; 1st<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Activity 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>After reading <em>Mouse Paint<\/em>, review what colors are primary and what colors are secondary.<\/li>\n<li>Let the children know they are going to explore mixing colors to make secondary colors.<\/li>\n<li>Give each child a cup of red, blue, and yellow paint with a brush and white construction paper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ryb661.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-1371 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ryb66-300x2251.jpg\" alt=\"Mouse Paint\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tell the children that they get to be the little mice now and to let their paint brushes dance in the puddles of paint!<\/li>\n<li>Encourage the children to mix the colors and create secondary colors on the construction paper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/arts-and-crafts-supplies\/paints-and-stains\/acrylic-paint\/?fp=PT3127\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Color Splash Acrylic Paints<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/arts-and-crafts-supplies\/paint-brushes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paint Brushes<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/craft-cup-disposable-containers-AC449\/\">Craft Cup Disposable Containers<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/arts-and-crafts-supplies\/paper\/construction-paper\/?fp=PE1000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">White Construction Paper<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Activity 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Making a class book is a great extension after reading <em>Mouse Paint<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>The children will each get a piece of white construction paper. The teacher has already written a sentence at the bottom for the child to fill in: &#8220;My mouse danced in the ________ paint.&#8221; Each child can choose what color their mouse will be and write the color word on the blank to finish the sentence.<\/li>\n<li>Then the child can paint a picture (you may want to draw an outline of a mouse first!) of their colorful mouse to match their sentence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ryb441.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1373\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ryb44-300x2251.jpg\" alt=\"Mouse Paint\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Once the pages are complete, the teacher will put all the pages together to make a class book.<\/li>\n<li>The class book can be shared as a read aloud and be placed on the bookshelf for children to look at on their own.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/arts-and-crafts-supplies\/paper\/construction-paper\/?fp=PE1000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">White Construction Paper<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/arts-and-crafts-supplies\/drawing-supplies\/crayons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crayons<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/arts-and-crafts-supplies\/drawing-supplies\/pencils\/?fp=SC1059\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pencils<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Activity 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Children will make their own puppets to hold when the teacher rereads <em>Mouse Paint<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Each child can choose what color mouse they want to make.
