Some are themed and can combine a number of skills to make it more challenging and exciting, while others have multiple ways a team can win. Many skills are practiced during these dodgeball alternative games, including agility, catching, throwing, coordination, teamwork, jumping, running and dodging.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re an after school program or a summer camp, these games are great for integrating movement and exercise into the day. According to Active Schools, only 6 states in the US require physical education in every grade, so you can really make a difference with the children in your program by providing these opportunities to get active. If you are considering introducing one or two of these to your PE Program, games like this can be a nice break from strict skill building drills once in awhile in order to focus on the fun part of physical activity.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve gathered a few of our favorite dodgeball alternative games for you to try, and have also listed the equipment you will need for each dodgeball variation. Many of the supplies can be substituted for similar items, but you will want to make sure you that you have quality <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=gator+skin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gator Skin Dodgeballs<\/a>\u00a0to use during the games, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=floor+tape\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">floor tape<\/a> if you do not have a playing area defined by boundaries like a basketball court.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 125%; text-align: center;\">Star Wars Dodgeball<\/h2>\n<p>Anything Star Wars themed is going to be a popular activity, so why not combine some staple Star Wars objects like light sabers, death stars and generators to really add to the fun! Below are two different ways to play with two teams. One involves moving the Death Star past the other team&#8217;s goal line while using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=gator+skin+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gator Skin Balls<\/a>, and the other challenges players to knock over light sabers in enemy territory and end the game with a final goal scoring.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 115%; text-align: center;\">Star Wars Dodgeball Version 1 &#8211; from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/FitKidsHealthyKids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fit Kids Health Kids<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Be the first team to knock down all the other teams&#8217; light sabers and destroy their generator<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equipment Needed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a style=\"text-decoration-line: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=gator+skin+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gator Skin Dodgeballs<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-flat-hoops-W8447G\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hoops<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/aqua-noodles-W7561\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Noodles<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-large-all-purpose-goal-W12409\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2 Hockey\/soccer nets<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/noodle-and-hoop-bases-W10438\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cones that fit noodles<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Set Up:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"field-label\">Place hockey nets backwards (generator) facing the wall about 2 feet away on each teams&#8217; side.<\/li>\n<li class=\"field-label\">Scattered in front of the net, place 5 noodles into cones (light sabers) so they stand up right and place a hula hoop around them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Game Objectives and Rules:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Objective #1<\/span> &#8211; Each team is to try to knock down the other team&#8217;s light-sabers (noodles) with the gator skin balls or by entering the opponents zone and knocking down the noodle with their hand (only one light saber at a time).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Objective # 2<\/span> &#8211; Once a team has successfully knocked down all the light-sabers they can complete the final objective. They are to throw the ball into the net by bouncing it off of the wall to destroy the other team&#8217;s generator.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"field-label\">Once a player enters the opponents zone they can be tagged by the other team.<\/li>\n<li class=\"field-label\">If they are tagged, they must sit down and wait for a member of their team to rescue them.<\/li>\n<li class=\"field-label\">Once they are rescued, they are given a free walk back to their side.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fit Kids Healthy Kids has even provided some great adaptations for younger children or progressions for older children and adults to make the game more challenging. It can open the opportunity for teammates to strategize and work together to try and win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equipment needed:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/search\/index.php?q=gator+skin+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gator Skin Dodgeballs<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/sports-pe-recreation\/coach-instructor-resources\/flags-cones-spot-markers\/cones\/?fp=W13649\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cones<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/item\/spectrum-lite-flite-baseball-set-W4263\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wiffle Balls<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/img.ssww.com\/cs_srgb,q_90,w_312\/v1502711580\/97\/25\/SWW9725.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flags<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Set Up:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Place 6 cones spaced evenly with wiffle balls on top on each team&#8217;s baseline.<\/li>\n<li>Place a flag in the center of the baseline on each team&#8217;s side<\/li>\n<li>Provide each team with 6 Gator Skin Dodgeballs<\/li>\n<li>Before the game, each team chooses one person to be the secret unfreezer (when a player is frozen, this is the only person that can unfreeze that player)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Game Objectives and Rules:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Objective<\/span> &#8211; Be the first team to do one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the flag is captured from the opposing team and brought back to the capturing team&#8217;s side<\/li>\n<li>If all wiffle balls are knocked off the opposing team&#8217;s cones<\/li>\n<li>If all players on the opposing team are frozen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How players get frozen\/unfrozen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A player is caught on the opposing teams side and must go to the other team&#8217;s jail<\/li>\n<li>When an opposing\u00a0team player catches a ball thrown across the gymnasium by the other team.<\/li>\n<li>When a player is\u00a0frozen they can be unfrozen by the secret unfreezer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This game was the courtesy of Rick Dekeon on <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/a\/aaps.k12.mi.us\/burnsparkpe\/dodgeball-alternatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Burn Park PE website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 125%; text-align: center;\">Why We Suggest Gator Skin Dodgeballs for Dodgeball Games<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12234\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ssww.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/gator-skin-dodgeball1.png\" alt=\"gator skin dodgeball\" width=\"950\" height=\"424\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many of the Dodgeball alternative games mentioned above will need a coated foam ball like Gator Skin, so that they are heavy enough to knock over objects, easier to grip, and provide better throwing accuracy.
