March 2nd is Read Across America Day!<\/h2>\n

Read Across America Day has been a day created by the National Education Association (NEA) to celebrate reading since 1998. The NEA chose the beloved Dr. Seuss’s birthday to get children excited about literacy and reading, much like a pep rally for football. So, we want to help cheer children on as they develop a love for reading and provide you with some easy, hands-on and fun actvities. We’ve gathered together our favorite crafts and ideas to engage your students and bring their reading to life on Read Across America Day.<\/p>\n

Write a Letter or Create a Card for Dr. Seuss<\/h2>\n

Children of all ages can have fun with this idea! We have this free Dr. Seuss letter printable <\/a><\/strong>that you can use to have students practice their writing. They can tell him about their favorite book, wish him a happy birthday, or even tell him what their favorite Dr. Seuss character is.<\/p>\n

Add some creativity and imagination to the activity by having students make a handmade card to Dr. Seuss that you can display in the classroom.\u00a0 Use pom poms<\/a>, pipe cleaners<\/a>, sequins<\/a><\/strong> and other fun embellishments, while encouraging them to decorate their DIY card<\/a><\/strong> like their favorite Dr. Seuss book cover.<\/p>\n

DIY Dr. Seuss Bookmarks<\/h2>\n

Along the same lines as the handmade cards above, children can also create their own bookmarks and decorate them. Use this value pack of white bookmarks<\/a><\/strong> for large groups! Again, using pom poms<\/a>, pipe cleaners<\/a>, sequins,\u00a0<\/a>string<\/a>,<\/strong> and felt<\/a><\/strong> will really get them excited to use it in their next book!<\/p>\n

Crafts to Match the Dr. Seuss Books You’re Reading<\/h2>\n

These crafts are great for young children and can really allow them to explore their imaginations when you, or your guests if you are having some for the day, are reading to them.\u00a0We love both of these ideas below from\u00a0Glued to My Crafts Blog<\/a>!\u00a0The best part is you only need a few supplies –\u00a0paper plates<\/a>, construction paper<\/a>, finger paint<\/a>, <\/strong>and craft sticks<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our favorite character just might be the Cat in the Hat, and these two crafts below make for getting into character super simple. Students will love wearing these hats.
