P.E. Central Lesson Plan: Fitness Lottery
Prerequisites:
Students must know the proper ways to do fitness exercises (e.g. sit-ups, push-ups, etc.).
Purpose of Activity:
To practice fitness components at the beginning of class.
Suggested Grade Level:
3-5
Materials Needed:
Rolling cart or table; Spinning Ball Cage/Bingo mixer (or a bucket with a lid); Ping pong balls
Lesson Plan:
Description of Idea

Before students arrive for class place the cart or table in the center of the activity area with the spinning cage or bucket on top. Place the ping pong balls inside the bucket. Written on the ping pong balls should be the fitness exercise. Have the line leader student or designate a student to be the one that spins the cage or shakes the bucket and pull out the fitness exercise for the day. This activity is a quick way to get students moving before the days lesson. This also frees the teacher to help individual students.

Important Note: Make sure the fitness activities you put on the ping pong balls are not stretching activities as the kids have not warmed up their muscles at that point. You may want to do a group locomotor warm up first as that will warm up the kids muscles. It all depends on the choices you have for the fitness activities.

Variations:

Instead of using ping-pong balls, the teacher may use different shaped objects to help integrate shapes into a lesson for lower grades.
