Comments about Make Your Own Jump Rope (set of 6):

We used these for my daughter's birthday party, kids 7-11. They loved this activity with each of them choosing various color combinations. We bought 2 packs for the nine girls so there were plenty of 'beads' for all to have their choice. We had them make a loop on the floor with their pattern and then gave them the rope with one handle already prepared. Then they added the beads and we secured the other end per directions. We did not cut any length off, figuring they'd like the jump ropes for the long haul and the length was fine for all even with the age range. Super fun and easy. Great party favor take home, too!

Comments about Make Your Own Jump Rope (set of 6):

I used this set as the "craft" and take away at my first grade daughter's end of school party. There are 18 kids (max) in each class, so I ordered 6 packs to get the discount of [$]/per pack. I know I'll be able to use the extra packs at my second daughter's party or birthday or as a summer craft with cousins. That put each rope at just under $3 with tax which I thought was totally worth it since it was both a craft and a gift for the kids.End of first grade was a perfect age for this activity, but second grade might have been better if you want them to be more independent. Kids loved making their own patterns and designs. Not every first grader could jump rope already, but with a little practice they were catching on quickly. Beaded ropes really are the best ropes to learn with too--the weight makes it easier to bring the rope around and the sound of the rope hitting the ground is a great auditory cue when learning to jump. My 5 year old preschooler can jump almost as well as my first grader with this rope especially since we measured it to be just her size. Plus, jump rope is a great activity kids can do on their own for exercise and for fun. The teacher and I thought sending the kids home with ready-made exercise was one of the best things we could do for them for the summer. Not to mention making the ropes is good for fine motor skills. We have ended up taking ropes with us everywhere we go this summer and letting our friends make their own--adjustment is a big key. A rope that is 5 inches too long can be difficult and discouraging to a kid. Kids did have difficulty tying knots tight enough and putting the handles on themselves. And, they could not measure themselves accurately. So, it worked best when I had the first knot/handle on each rope already made and could just hand ropes to kids to begin beading. When they were finished, I helped them measure and put on the finishing handle/knot. One problem I faced was cutting the extra rope--after I cut it I should have hot glued or taped the end somehow so it didn't fray. The fraying bothered me but the kids could care less. I'm not sure they would have liked waiting for hot glue to dry any way.
