Every summer I work in children's camps. Kids like free time, but it's good to give them something to do in free time. Beach ball games are one option. Light beach balls let even little kids play slow-motion volley ball. Or make up games. Stand in a circle and say your name before tossing it to another person as an ice-breaker, etc.
