Printable Fitness Challenge Calendar for Kids – Keeping Students Active

Encouraging kids to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle is a main goal of both teachers and afterschool professionals. We have seen many teachers asking for monthly fitness calendars to challenge students to stay active during the year, and even to take home over school break and get their family involved.

We teamed up with the Alliance For A Healthier Generation to create our first fitness calendar for the month of January 2018! Here is the link to the download:

Printable January Fitness Calendar

Students are challenged each day to participate in the activities listed on the calendar. For January, the exercises include Lunges, Squat Jumps, Heel Kicks, and Jump & Twists. Each week, the number of repetitions for each fitness exercise increases. Wednesdays are Cardio Day, where students will spend the alloted time either skipping, jogging in place, jumping rope, or a combination of these.

The calendar also includes task cards for each challenge, so you can show your students images of the correct way to do the activites.

As a partner of the Alliance for a Healtheir GenerationPE Central and Active Schools, we are excited to provide this calendar to the PE and afterschool community.

We would love to hear your feedback in the comment section below. Here are some sample questions you can answer:

  • How is this calendar helpful for your program?
  • Would you like to see more variation in the fitness activites?
  • If we included activity ideas other than specific exercises, what would you recommend?
  • Should the number of repetitions increase by more? Or less?

  1. This is so great! Now that our kids are learning from home, I’m loving this schedule. It prepares them for each day and they’ll know what to do each day. Thank you for sharing this to everyone! ❤️.
    Question,
On the April month fitness challenge, there’s a baseball task card but not a basketball card task. I see basketball on some days during April. Can you share that task card with me please?

  2. I really love the fitness calendars, and so do my students and their families! Thank you so much for providing these. However, the calendars are sent out right before the month starts. It takes time to get it all put together with descriptions, get prepared to teach the things that will be done that month, make the copies and distribute them to the students. Would it be possible to send them out a couple of weeks prior to the start of the month? It would really help, just like sending out Halloween lesson ideas in September, so we can plan ahead. Thanks again for all you do to help those of us in the trenches!

    • Hi Roxanne, thank you for your feedback on the fitness calendars! So great to hear they help with your program. We can definitely have them posted a few weeks before the month starts, and then they will be sent in the weekly blog newsletter earlier as well. That is great feedback that it takes time for you to have it all put together and prepared for that month. Thanks again! We are working on October now.

  3. My sister is worried about her kids because they don’t like going outdoors and play. It was discussed here that she can try a fitness challenge calendar for children. Moreover, it’s highly recommended to go to professionals for personal training for kids.

  4. I like this calender, and have used and crafted others before. It would be very helpful for my school to have them a couple of months in advance so we can have them added to our schools monthly newsletter as well. Thanks,

  5. I LOVE this calendar with the weekly increase in activities! My munchkins are really enjoying this as well! It is helping us all stay fit! I wish y’all did this every month!!! Thank you!

  6. Love the calendar. I have not use it until today January 6 but cant wait to use it with my kiddos on Monday our first day back.

  7. This looks great. I’m looking forward to using this as an “at home” challenge for my kiddos. I will add a student and parent signature log sheet to be signed each time a day is completed. There will be a due date to turn in the log sheet. Students will be recognized at end of semester award semesters if they turn in the completed log sheets for the assigned months.

Maybe make the number of reps and minutes for cardio vary to differentiate for the various age groups. I teach 1st-5th grade.

    Thanks for this resource!!!

    • Hi Cindy, thanks so much for your comment! A signature log sheet is a great idea, and to recognize students for completing it. Since we would like this calendar to be a resource for all grade levels, we are still brainstorming ideas on how it can be tailored to each one. We could always leave the number of reps/minutes blank, but then they would have to be filled in manually. Stay tuned for the February calendar which will be posted next week. Thanks again!
