How to Get Your Residents Ready for Football Season

football season senior residentsWith football season here, it’s time to get your residents fired up to cheer on your local college and NFL teams throughout the fall season. Here are a few activity ideas from notjustbingo.com to add to your monthly calendars.

Football Crafts & Activitiy Ideas

Beading Party – Surprise your facility’s Beading Club with football beads for them to incorporate into their jewelry-making for the season. Host a special themed Beading Party and invite all residents – even those who do not normally bead – to make a football necklace for them to wear at your tailgate parties.

Backyard Flag Football Games – Consider bringing the sport of football to your residents this season by inviting their grandchildren to play in several Saturday flag football games in your backyard. Supply the children with easy-to-use flag belts and soft foam footballs to use for the weekly games. Beforehand, arrange for your residents to use these foam fingers to decorate and represent their team during the football season.

College Game Day – Encourage residents to wear the school colors of your local collegiate football team as you host a fun party in your Activity Room on Saturday morning. Each week, invite residents to make a different themed craft, like a helmet craft, while having the big game on the television. Be sure to have plenty of crafts for the visiting grandkids to join in.

Weekend Tailgates – Coordinate with Dining Services to serve hot dogs and hamburgers for a weekly Saturday lunch. Decorate your Dining Room with DIY pennants made with craft paper that can be colored with markers by visiting kids and used for all of your facility’s sporting events. You can also make football sand art!

Pee-Wee Football Outings – Look throughout your community or ask family members about scheduled games in your area that you can take your residents to on Saturday mornings. If Friday evenings are a better option for outings, seek out local Friday night high school football games.
